Two chairs on the treehouse deck, set between mossy native tree trunks with bush beyond.

A house in the boughs of the trees.

A treehouse for two, built into a private stand of native bush on a twenty-eight acre property outside Whangarei.

The place

The treehouse is built right into the trees — the kind of dwelling that belongs in Tolkien or the Magic Faraway Tree, except that you can sleep in it, cook in it, and spend a long morning on its deck doing nothing at all.

It sits several hundred metres from our own house, out of sight of it, with its own garden and its own stretch of bush. Quiet, but not remote — the city is a short drive down the hill.

From guests

Wow. This was just the best place to stay — interesting, peaceful, beautiful — can’t fault it. Plus the breakfast, including homemade bread, was such a nice touch.

Absolutely loved our two nights here on the start of our Northland road trip. Very calming space to be in, and it has everything you need.
